The garden’s pronounced seasonal nature offers brilliant bulbs in spring, eye-popping annuals in summer, and showy fall foliage, berries, and bark textures. There’s even a waterfall and small pond.
The richly detailed entry garden is a comfortable resting stop whether you’ve arrived by foot, by bike, or by bus, and it’s open 24 hours a day. Between the dozens of rare and remarkable specimen trees and the climb-able abstract sculpture, there’s something for every garden guest and University Circle neighbor.
Things to discover
Beautiful annual flower displays | Rob is the Horticulturist who built all the beautiful annual flower displays in our Gateway Garden. The coleus and petunias get plenty of sun, plenty of H2o, and plenty of fertilizer. A perfect formula! Coleus hail from tropical Central Africa; petunias from tropical S. America.
Ornamental Grasses | Autumn is the perfect season for the grasses: their leaves are still bright and full of summer even as their seed heads are growing heavy and burnishing in the September sun. Pictured is lyme grass Elymus arenarius ‘Blue Dune’ but don’t miss the man-eating mondo grass.
