CLEVELAND BOTANICAL GARDEN: The Costa Rica Biome within The Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse will be closed for renovations starting on Monday, July 14. We will continue to communicate updates and a reopening date as the project progresses. The Madagascar Biome will remain open. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Private landowners face a variety of challenges when it comes to successful land stewardship including succession planning, pests, disease, poor logging practices, pressure from logging companies, and invasive plants.
The Working Woods Hub seeks to address these challenges.
The Working Woods Hub is a network of passionate educators, natural resource professionals, and scientists who seek to partner with forest landowners and other professionals throughout the region to manage, protect, and create resilient forests in Northeast Ohio.
We work to increase understanding of — and promote best practices in — forest management in our region, achieved through tried-and-true forestry practices, scientific research, and community outreach.
Since it began in 2018, Working Woods has gained national recognition and has grown into a wider network that includes programs and skills workshops, Ohio-specific forest management resources, a seed bank, and a consulting forestry business that offers personalized advice to individual landowners.
Our woods do so much for us — they filter our water, purify our air, provide places of beauty and recreation, give us materials to build homes and maple syrup on our pancakes, and so much more. Responsible management is a way to enjoy the many benefits a forest has to offer while ensuring its health and resilience for generations to come.
