The Cleveland Botanical Garden is participating in the North American Japanese Garden Association’s initiative Gardens for Peace with interactive activities every Tuesday and Wednesday in September! Drop by our Japanese Garden anytime to learn about various facets of Japanese culture and take part in the peaceful activities listed below.
Week 1: Pull the Rake for Peace (gravel raking)
Tuesday, September 3rd & Wednesday, September 4th
Learn about the gravel patterns of Japanese zen gardens. Practice your own pattern to calm the mind and give the garden a peaceful atmosphere.
Week 2: Wishing Tree
Tuesday, September 10th & Wednesday, September 11th
Trees are symbols of life, hope, and resilience, so we’re celebrating the Japanese tradition of offering wishes to trees with a relaxing little activity in our Japanese Garden. Come write down or draw your wish and attach it to our ethereal European Beech tree. We’re putting good energy into the world, one wish at a time.
Week 3: Origami Cranes
Tuesday, September 17th & Wednesday, September 18th
Spend some time in nature while honing your skills in origami. Guests will learn how to fold paper to create origami peace cranes, and the finished products will hang from the wisteria arbor.
Week 4: Haiku
Tuesday, September 24th & Wednesday, September 25th
Stop by the Japanese Garden anytime to learn about the Japanese art of haiku writing. We’ll have chalkboards scattered throughout the garden for guests to try their hand at writing their own.
