This area hosts three separate vignettes that examine:
- Rhododendrons in their native habitat.
- The role Northeast Ohio has played in hybridization.
- The successful usage of rhododendrons in home landscapes.
Things to Discover
Erica carnea Tanja | At the center of this garden is an overlook with a charming, rustic pergola carved from black locust wood.
Kalmia latifolia rosea | The central walkway leads visitors into the Helen S. Layer Rhododendron Garden, a larger display garden with even more plant life to explore.
Geum tempoorange | Walk among lush rhododendrons and a variety of other gorgeous blooms.
Vaccinium corymbosum ‘Bluejay’ | Find inspiration for your home landscape by touring our cultivated gardens.
The Eliot and Linda Paine Rhododendron Garden is named in honor of the Arboretum’s former executive director and his wife. Paine led the Arboretum from 1983 until 1995, and later served on the organization’s board of directors.
