This cultivated garden filled with seasonal flowers and native trees and shrubs sits nestled in the corner underneath the Botanical Garden’s Japanese Overlook Hallway. This secret oasis is perfect for a slow stroll or a moment of reflection.
Things to discover
Daylilies | In truth, you can spy daylilies growing throughout our gardens, but this garden gives a nice showcase of mostly orange selections. The really big, beefy daylilies have doubled chromosomes that induce them to flower with extravagance.
Panicle Hydrangea, Hydrangea paniculata ‘Pink Diamond’ | Check out this tree hydrangea, it’s the only garden hydrangea pruned in spring not summer.
American Witch-hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) | This common denizen of Ohio woodlands blooms late to gain a “monopoly” on the little pollinator flies that are still active after the bees have gone quiet. The fittest often survive not by competition but by finding a niche where there is no competition.
