Asia Armour is a practicing artist working primarily in photography and collage works. Asia’s experience as an artist, as well as a black woman, taught her that the best times to learn and apply creatively come in unfamiliar spaces and tasks. Born in Kentucky, Asia moved to Cleveland at a young age and has lived here her whole life.
In the Gies Terrace Allée
Cleveland artist Asia Armour debuts her art using 1,400 flowers including “Maverick Pink” Geranium, “Victoria Blue” Salvia, and “Campfire” and “Wasabi” Coleus in an explosion of color and design. With assistance from Horticulturist Rob Dzuric, Asia’s art celebrates the glamour of Black women, vibrant color and the wonder of flowers.
In the Garden Café
In Bloom by Asia Armour Studios is a collection of new college works from the artist. The exhibition contains mostly new work from the Cleveland-born photographer. The collection examines everything good about women, exploring notable black women from an era that was often unkind to black Hollywood femininity. Eartha Kitt, Josephine Baker, and so many more will be celebrated by the artist in a style similar to Andy Warhol’s celebration of Marilyn Monroe. The layers of meaning are elevated with the inclusion of personal letters from men in her life that speak to the strength and value of women in her family.
More about the artist
Taking up photography as a hobby that turned into a passion, Asia has been creating with professional intent for the last 7 years. As a photographer and creative, Asia’s art journey has been vast and full.
Working with The Centers for Arts Inspired Learning in a photography class, Asia was afforded the chance to see the creative genius of young artists in the Cleveland area firsthand. During this time she opened her photography studio and has shown at over 10 shows in Cleveland and outside in 2 years. Most recently, Asia shot for NY Fashion week 2021 and was featured in Voyage, an online publication for creative space-making.
