Hundreds of Community-Created Textile Sculptures Transform Holden Arboretum This Summer
July 9, 2026
KIRTLAND, Ohio (July 9, 2026) Holden Forests & Gardens will debut Woven Landscapes, at The Holden Arboretum on July 18, showcasing a large-scale outdoor art installation created through a unique collaboration between community members and Cleveland-based Praxis Fiber Workshop.
Included with admission and on display through September 7, the exhibition features more than 400 textile sculptures created from fabric printed by participants during a series of free public workshops. Using an accessible screen-printing process, community members contributed unique designs that were transformed into a colorful, ever-changing landscape throughout the gardens.
Inspired by a community-driven installation in Cleveland’s Waterloo Arts District, the work has evolved into a new seasonal expression at Holden, where movement, light, and the natural environment create a different experience for visitors throughout the summer.
Founded in 2014, Praxis Fiber Workshop is a nonprofit community textile arts organization dedicated to expanding access to fiber arts through classes, workshops, artist residencies, and collaborative community projects. Based in Cleveland’s Waterloo Arts District, Praxis creates opportunities for people of all ages and experience levels to explore textile arts while fostering creativity, experimentation, and connection.
“Woven Landscapes reflects the power of bringing people together to create something larger than themselves,” said Ed Moydell, president and CEO of Holden Forests & Gardens. “At Holden, we believe nature has the power to connect people, and this installation beautifully combines community creativity with the experience of being immersed in the landscape. Visitors won’t simply view the artwork, they’ll move through it, interact with it, and experience how it changes with the seasons, weather, and light.”
“Woven Landscapes began with hundreds of individual acts of creativity,” said Jessica Pinsky, executive director at Praxis Fiber Workshop. “What visitors will experience at Holden is the transformation of those individual contributions into a collective work of art. The installation changes with the wind, the light, and the seasons, reminding us that creativity, like nature, is constantly evolving and shaped by the people who participate in it.”
Rooted in community participation, the project reflects shared values between Holden Forests & Gardens and Praxis Fiber Workshop: creating accessible experiences that invite people to engage with the world around them, discover new perspectives, and build meaningful connections through creativity and exploration.
Woven Landscapes will be on display at The Holden Arboretum from July 18 through September 7 and is included with general admission.
