Indigofera heterantha (Himalayan indigo)

Indigofera heterantha

This shrub in the pea family is native to Himalaya as well as Afghanistan and Tibet. It is suited to a wide range of soil conditions but prefers slightly moist, well-drained soil.  Grows in full to part sun.   Rose pink to lilac blooms appear in mid-summer and are followed in fall by dark purple seed pods. Foliage is blueish green and finely textured. Considered a cut back shrub as the foliage dies to the ground in winter and sends up new growth as temperatures warm in the spring. Useful in hot sunny locations.
