Join us each month for a walk at the Working Woods Learning Forest with a member of our team to explore a new perspective on the ways we interact with our Northeast Ohio forests.
The Working Woods Learning Forest is a 67-acre living laboratory and demonstration site highlighting the ecology, management, and value of our regional forests.
Join Working Woods Hub staff for a guided walk through the Working Woods Learning Forest. Each tour explores how ecology, history, and stewardship influence the forests around us and shape how we care for them today. After the walk, enjoy light refreshments and conversation with fellow participants and staff. Each tour includes informational handouts to take home.
Terrain: up to 2.0 miles, natural surface and grass, mostly flat with some slight slopes, potential mud and wet spots depending on weather.
Time: 10am-12pm
Location: Working Woods Learning Forest at Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, Ohio (9805 Sperry Rd. Kirtland OH 44094)
Price: $10 per member, $20 per nonmember

Discover the hidden flavors in your woods! Join Becah Troutman, Working Woods Hub Manager, to explore the diversity of edible plants while discussing how forest management practices can support greater biodiversity—and a richer range of flavors on the landscape. Along the way, you’ll learn how to identify common species, consider their ecological roles, and see how stewardship decisions shape what grows around you.
Reading the Woods: Stories of People and Place
Wednesday, September 23, 2026

The relationship between people and woods in our region spans thousands of years. Join Anna Carlson, Working Woods Outreach Coordinator, to explore how that relationship has changed over time and how past land use continues to shape the landscape today. Walk through old-growth and young-growth forest, examining signs on the landscape and considering how this history informs forest stewardship today.
