The area is laid out as a formal knot garden, just like you’d see in England, and is home to over 3,500 herbs and plants, spread through several themed sections:

- The trial and cutting garden
- The dye garden
- The historic rose garden
- The culinary garden
- The medicinal garden
- The terrace garden
- The edible flower garden
The historic rose walk invites you on a journey through time, with a collection of antique roses that were in existence before 1867. And while you’re here, make sure to stop by the English-made sundial that dates back to 1795. The Western Reserve Herb Garden is heralded as one of the most significant in America, and your visit will immerse you in the timeless beauty and utility of the natural world.

Take advantage of the knowledge and passion of the Western Reserve Herb Society gardeners during their weekly work sessions! Every Tuesday and Thursday morning during the growing season, drop by the Western Reserve Herb Garden with your questions about herbs, from history to horticulture, to cooking and crafts. The herb society members are excited to welcome you into the garden and share their passion for plants!

The Sundial in the Western Reserve Herb Garden is built from local bluestone sandstone, and features replicas of historical grist wheels and an upturned stone lawn-rolling barrel. “Bluestone” sandstone is tough, even-grained high-quality sandstone that was extensively quarried through the 1890s at what is now Euclid Creek Reservation. One quarry pit was converted to a Shakespearian amphitheater and remains to this day.
