Holden Arboretum's Population Genetics: Wild Strawberry program allows your students to experience hands-on citizen science scientific investigation using technology to answer a plant population genetics question.
Have you ever wanted to incorporate a hands-on lab experience with your students on extracting and analyzing DNA from start to finish? If so, Holden Arboretum’s Population Genetics: Wild Strawberry program allows your students to experience hands-on citizen science scientific investigation using technology to answer a plant population genetics question. Students will extract DNA from wild strawberry leaves, experience the laboratory polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, and pipette gel electrophoresis to run and analyze strawberry DNA samples. Weather permitting, students will explore the grounds of Holden Arboretum using iNaturalist to find wild strawberry plants.
