Zelkova serrata ‘Green Vase’ (green vase zelkova)
According to Klyn Nursery, “A vigorous-growing tree whose vase-shaped outline is ideal for use in urban plantings. Compared with other Zelkova species, it experiences more rapid growth when young, better winter hardiness, better drought resistance, and larger leaves. Smooth gray bark eventually exfoliates to reveal orange-brown inner bark. Native to Japan, Taiwan, and eastern China, it tolerates city conditions and shows both disease and insect resistance. It will perform best in full sun with average soil moisture. Zelkova is touted as a substitute for American Elm because of its resistance to Dutch Elm Disease.”
