Cardinal crab apple features beautiful foliage and large, intense pink flowers in springThe tree is a hybrid of M. hupenhensis and has a broad spreading form. Almost dark almost black spring leaves change color to glossy red in summer. Deep red, small fruit cover the branches in the autumn and are relished by wildlife. Best grown in medium moisture, well-drained, acidic loams in full sun but will adapt to a wide range of soil. Developed by Wellington and received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
