Acer x freemanii ‘Autumn Fantasy’ (Freeman maple)
According to Klyn Nursery, “Being a Freeman maple, the ‘Autumn Fantasy’ is a hybrid of Acer rubrum and A. saccharinum resulting in A. rubrum’s strong branch structure and A. saccharinum’s fast growth. The ‘Autumn Fantasy’ really takes this to heart with an improved branching structure and faster growth than the incredibly popular cultivar ‘Autumn Blaze.’ Growing into a broadly oval form, this serves as an excellent shade tree as it will reach up to 40’ in width over time. This selection is a reliable fall performer and will deliver its shockingly red foliage regardless of siting or weather conditions. It will produce samaras but has been noted to produce less than other cultivars. It is tolerant of many soil conditions and can even tolerate occasional standing water. Make sure to site in full sun with plenty of room to grow. “
