Discover What Happens Behind the Scenes at Holden at the 10th Annual SEARCH Symposium
July 30, 2025

Curious about what goes on behind the scenes at Holden Forests & Gardens? The 10th annual Symposium for Ecological Research (SEARCH) offers a window into the real work happening across our gardens, forests, and programs — all through the lens of the students who’ve spent their summer contributing to it.
Symposium for Ecological Research (SEARCH)
Tuesday August 5, 2025 | 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Cleveland Botanical Garden | Woodland Hall
Through interactive poster presentations, you’ll explore the ideas, questions, and discoveries that shape Holden’s efforts in research, conservation, education, and horticulture — all from the interns helping move that work forward.
At SEARCH, you’ll hear stories of soil microbes and spicebush disease, youth engagement strategies and the evolution of azaleas — and begin to see how these individual projects connect to Holden’s broader mission. It’s a chance to ask questions, share ideas, and walk away with a deeper understanding of the science, strategy, and creativity that drive our work.
SEARCH guests enjoy:
- Free admission to the Botanical Garden
- Free parking in the attached garage
- 15% off new and renewed memberships
- 20% off in the Retail Store and Café
No registration required — just stop by, ask questions, and show your support for the next generation of environmental leaders.

About the Holden Intern Program and SEARCH
This summer, Holden is hosting 36 interns — including 14 college students and 22 high school Green Corps interns — each placed in a specific focus area such as horticulture, conservation, research, or public engagement. Guided by staff mentors, students gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and make real contributions to Holden’s mission.
SEARCH, now in its 10th year, began as a small internal research symposium and has grown into a vibrant annual event showcasing work by Holden interns as well as students from other institutions across the region. It serves as both a capstone experience for the presenting students as well as a public celebration of the learning and discovery happening throughout the summer.
Come see the results of these students’ hard work and learn what they have discovered this summer.
We hope to see you there!
