Acer rubrum ‘Brandywine’ (red maple)
Acer rubrum ‘Brandywine’
According to Klyn Nursery, “Introduced by the U.S. National Arboretum, the ‘Brandywine’ is a selection from the native species Acer rubrum. It forms an upright, oval crown as it matures but does not get nearly as big as other red maples making it the perfect fit for smaller yards, street, highway, or park plantings. Green, lobed leaves turn a brilliant red in early October, deepening to burgundies and scarlets as the season progresses. Additionally, ‘Brandywine’ only bears male flowers meaning no samaras will be produced! Plant this tree in a full sun to part shade location. It prefers soils that are medium moisture levels but is widely adaptable. “
