It’s Poppin’: Spring 2025 has Arrived

Leaves

Welcome to It’s Poppin’, 2025.  This is the third year for this series- we hope you follow along as we explore our beautiful gardens over the next months.  We’ll write weekly through May, and then every-other-week through July.

The earliest blooms are up for you to come explore and photograph.  Can you believe it?  Most of the plants are low to the ground, and to see them best, you might need to get on your hands and knees.  For those looking for something taller, look for the witch-hazels, an early blooming shrub.  Here’s what’s happening at our campuses:

Holden Arboretum

Winter aconite, Eranthis hyemalis
Early crocus, Crocus tommasinianus ‘Lilac Beauty’
Hybrid witch-hazel, Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Moonlight’
Witch-hazel, Hamamelis vernalis ‘Red Imp’

Cleveland Botanical Garden

Snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis
Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Ruby Glow’
Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Arnold Promise’ in the Gateway Garden
Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Arnold Promise’
