Holden Forests & Gardens Celebrates150th Anniversary of Arbor Day with Free Admission, Tree Seedling Giveaways, & More

Tue., Apr. 12, 2022

Trees, wonderful trees! This year marks the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day, the national holiday devoted to trees.

The Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Holden Arboretum celebrate the planting and care of trees every day, but especially during the month of April when spring is in the air and it’s a great time to plant. Trees are of central importance to life on Earth and now is the time to become more aware of them.

In observance of Arbor Day on Friday, April 29th, Holden Forests & Gardens will offer free admission to the Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Holden Arboretum. Free tree seedlings will be distributed at Cleveland Botanical Garden between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and at the Holden Arboretum between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., or while supplies last at each campus.  Trees that will be distributed are:  Red maple, Acer rubrum, Sugar maple, Acer saccharum, Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii

Free Small Woodland Owner Handbook

Much of Northeast Ohio’s tree canopy exists in small woodland parcels of land. Holden Forests & Gardens is excited to offer a FREE handbook for small woodland owners through a grant from the Ohio Environmental Education Fund of the Ohio EPA: The Small Woodland Management Manual.  This manual provides an engaging shorthand guide with resources that are most relevant for small woodland landowners in Northeast Ohio. If you own between one and 10 acres of woodland and want to understand and care for your forest, the Small Woodland Management Manual is for you.
