The Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club is saving Monarch Butterflies
Members of the Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club are doing their part to save as many Monarch butterflies as possible.
The group recently began a conservation project, initiated by President Elaine George, encouraging others to ‘release butterflies, not balloons.’ Statistics show that less than 10% of the eggs laid will survive to adult butterflies. Raising the eggs in a protected environment increases the odds to more than 80%. Members have already released more than 187 butterflies, and several eggs and caterpillars are still maturing. The goal is for more than 200 butterflies to be released.
Local Monarch butterfly expert, Bev Stives, is assisting club members with the project.

Garden Holiday Show
The Cleveland Botanical Garden is pleased to present a Garden Holiday Show! The theme of the holiday show this year is “Hearth and Home for the Holidays: Plants We Use to Celebrate the Holidays” 2021. The Garden Holiday Show will feature some interpretation about the plants we use to celebrate the holidays through home decor, food, traditions and rituals. In addition to decorating trees, wreaths, doors and table settings, a small number of mantels are available for decorating. Decorating Guidelines click here provide you with further information on what you may do (or not do) with your decorations. Decorating List, click here for the 2021 decorating list to see decorating times. NOTE: there are quite a few changes this year with the design to the Garden Holiday Show, so check those also. For questions about the Garden Holiday Show, please contact Kevin Borowiak, Holiday Show Affiliate coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 216-744-4866.
We hope that you will encourage your club to get involved and support this year’s new and exciting Garden Holiday Show – and a BIG thank you in advance for those participating by decorating!
